Back-halves and redirects
How the ending of a short link is chosen, 302 or 301, and how to edit, pause and delete a link.
The back-half#
The back-half is the part after the last slash. Choose it yourself, or leave it empty and Linkaloo makes a random one of seven characters. Random ones leave out letters that look alike, such as 0 and O. Some words are reserved and cannot be used.
302 or 301#
You choose per link. 302 is the default and says the link may point somewhere else later. 301 tells browsers and search engines the move is permanent.
Edit, pause, delete#
- Edit changes the destination, the title and the tags. The short link stays the same.
- Pause stops the link without deleting it. A paused link answers 404.
- Delete removes the link. You type the back-half again to confirm.
What the link answers#
| Situation | Answer |
|---|---|
| The link exists | The redirect (302 or 301) |
| The link is missing or paused | 404 |
| The link was taken down | 410 |
| Linkaloo cannot be reached | 503, never a redirect somewhere else |
QR code#
Every link has a QR code you can download as an SVG.
