# Clean links and UTM

> Tags and UTM fields go to the destination only, so the short link you share has nothing added to it.

## Nothing added to the short link

The short link is the back-half you chose, and nothing more. Linkaloo never adds a reference or a tracking parameter to it.

## UTM fields

If you set UTM fields on a link (source, medium, campaign and content), Linkaloo adds them to the **destination** address when it sends the visitor on. The page you own receives them and your own analytics can use them. The link you share is unchanged.

## What a visitor brings

Keep query is off by default: anything added to the short link itself is not passed on. If you turn it on for a link, query parameters on the short link are passed to the destination, but only keys the destination does not already carry.

## Tags

Tags are for you: they help you find and group links on the dashboard. They are not sent anywhere.

> [!HONEST]
> A short link hides where it goes. That is why Linkaloo checks every destination before a link is made, and why a link can be reported and taken down.
